What Is A Registered Agent?
A registered agent is a person or company designated to receive service of process and official mail on behalf of your business. Registered agents are also known as statutory agents, resident agents, and agents for service of process.
Each state requires registered business entities (such as an LLC, a corporation, or a nonprofit) to appoint a registered agent on their formation documents. These formation documents (often called “articles of organization” or “articles of incorporation”) are filed with the state. The information listed in the formation documents becomes public record.
Can I be my own registered agent?
Yes, all states allow for you to be your own company’s registered agent. In fact, any individual or business that meets a state’s registered agent requirements can be a registered agent. Some states even allow a corporation or LLC to be its own registered agent.
The real question is, should you be your own registered agent?
Registered agents are charged with important responsibilities that can greatly impact your business. If you’re not regularly available to accept legal notices in person at the location listed on your public documents, you should not be your own registered agent. We support many businesses that need a virtual office by providing a physical address for your business, a unique suite number, a real office lease, same-day mail scanning, weekly physical mail forwarding, and a fully-functional virtual phone line with the local area code of your choice. Our virtual office locations even accept Amazon Verification Cards for business owners who want to sell on the world’s number one marketplace. We unfortunately can’t accept Google Business Address Verification Postcards because Google doesn’t allow sellers to list an address where they don’t actually physically operate. However, even with that limitation, our virtual offices give business owners everything they need without the expense or hassle of paying for an actual physical office.
US Virtual Address
Our US Virtual Office Service provides you with a virtual address that is yours and only yours. This address includes a unique suite number that looks professional and is easy to remember. We do not reuse suite numbers, so you needn’t worry about sharing a suite number with one of our previous clients, and you can route your mail and company details through our secure locations. This way you won’t have to worry about updating your information with the general public if your business decides to move. Most importantly, our US virtual office service gives you control over who can access your private information.
US Virtual Phone Service
Our Virtual Office Service includes a second US phone number with an area code in any state. But our Phone Service is much more than a second number that’s unique to your business. Calls can be forwarded to any existing US number you desire, and you can text, make calls, and check voicemails (including via transcription!) from your laptop, phone or other device. If you need more phone numbers at any point, you can add them for just a $30 a month for each phone number.
